Indigenous Peoples of Toronto: An Introduction for Newcomers

Looking to learn more about the Indigenous history and cultures of Toronto? The Indigenous Peoples in Toronto: An Introduction for Newcomers guide offers an accessible introduction to the rich histories, contemporary lives, and perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

The guide was authored by our Ridge Road team, Dr. Kiera Brant-Birioukov, Dr. Anton Birioukov-Brant, Gail Brant-Terry, and Mark Currie.

Created by the City of Toronto in collaboration with OCASI, the guide was authored by our team at Ridge Road with guidance from an Indigenous & Newcomer Advisory Council. Inside, you’ll find practical tools for respectful cultural interaction, suggestions for places to visit, and ideas for building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.

Below you will find the guide in English, French, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish!
